Basic Training: design-tool workshops
an Accelerator for eTransfers program activity
Build or further develop your engineering design-tool-belt. These workshops will provide you rudimentary design-skills that can open the doors to other more meaningful projects. Get your hands dirty on some technical work!
Purpose
There is no better way to discover the possibilities in engineering than to get your hands dirty on a technical project. Like working on a home-improvement project, having the correct tools makes a world of a difference in the kind of work you can do. At Basic Training, we will provide you with rudimentary tools to get started on technical work.
Additionally, these skills will be needed in the HAcK at Accelerator competition later in the summer.
What is Basic Training?
Basic Training is a series of workshops that will provide instruction on a set of design-skills and tools that students can use to work on technical projects. Topics include: a) coding, b) Arduino-microcontrollers and circuits, c) Computer Aided Design (CAD).
Workshops will be led by leaders from the UCLA chapters of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Accelerator Mentors.

Registration Fee
Participant fee: $0 (open and free to 50 participants). A cancellation fee of $125 (to cover the costs of parts and supplies) will result if you drop out of Basic Training.
Registration for Basic Training will open on June 8, 2022 after the How to Spend your Summer info-session. We encourage students to sign-up to attend the info-session.
Supplies & Parts
Supplies and parts will be distributed either through USPS or a pick-up location will be designated in the week of June 27, 2022.
Southern California residents – will need to pick-up your supplies at a location in your area. We will notify you when and where the pick-up is scheduled.
Northern California or out of state – participants will receive their supplies in the mail.
International participants – are encouraged to purchase their own supplies. We will provide you a parts list for the training.
