New Student Programs

HAcK at Transfer Bridge to UCLA Samueli Engineering is a summer accelerator program designed to provide incoming engineering transfer students an opportunity to ‘get their hands dirty’ on a technical engineering design project; to utilize their math, science, and engineering concepts; to gain some professional development; and to have some fun.

Welcome to HAcK 2022!

Meet the Judges

Aditya Mishra
Digikey Ambassador & HAcK Mentor (2021)

Hey Everyone! I was the Digikey Ambassador for this summer’s HAcK Competition and had a lot of fun watching you guys create your robots! Super excited to see how the projects turned out and am thrilled to have been part of your HAcK Journey!

Alexander Pak
President, ASME at UCLA

I am entering my 4th year as a Mechanical Engineering student at UCLA. My hometown is in San Clemente, CA and I enjoy engineering and art projects alike!

Ava Asmani
President, ACM at UCLA

I am a rising junior studying Electrical Engineering. During my internship this summer, I have been working on PCB design which is something that I found I am very interested in. I am also interested in communications systems (specifically studying different encoders and decoders). In my free time, I love hiking, watching movies, reading and exploring cities with my friends. I’m very excited to be a judge and see what all of the HAcKers have made!

Christy Yeung
1st place HAcK Champion (2021)

I am an incoming senior majoring in Computer Science and transferred from West Valley College. Last year, my team and I won the HAcK challenge.

Gabriel Alpuerto
HAcK mentor, Classroom Boot Camp instructor, Mechanical Engineering, M.S., (2022)

Hello! I am Gabriel Alpuerto, two-time Bruin who graduated with my bachelor’s in mechanical engineering in 2021 and my master’s in Mechanical Engineering in 2022 with a focus in Design, Robotics, and Manufacturing. At UCLA, I participated in ASME as president, volunteered with SOLES, NSBE, and AISES, and worked in the Engineering Makerspace since it was founded. I also worked frequently with the Transfer Bridge program: two times as a mentor and one time as an instructor. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree, I secured an internship with Motiv Space Systems which would continue into a part time job during my master’s and then a full-time position after graduation. Motiv is a small robotics company that focuses on robotic application for space missions and exploration. I currently work as a Mechanical Engineer where I design parts for robotic manipulators.
